About 4,500 athletes from 26 nations have come to compete. Italy alone is sending around 500 athletes. In total, athletes will compete for 282 gold medals across 28 sports. Those medals were specially crafted by Italy’s State Mint.
Around 3,000 volunteers are helping run the event. Italy’s President and Prime Minister are both expected to attend the opening ceremony.
The Games run from August 21 through September 3.
